Term 4 Week 6

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,

Last week commenced with Remembrance Day and four of our students represented the school beautifully at the City of Queanbeyan RSL Sub-branch Remembrance Day service laying a wreath on behalf of the school.  The students back at school also participated in reverent Remembrance Day liturgies. Mrs Smith and Mr Gomez did a wonderful job organising the students to run the service with the support of some of our Defence families. I thank all those who were able to attend and support in making this a special day for the students to remember, respect the sacrifices and give thanks for Australian Defence personnel.

We welcomed the new Kindergarten children for 2025 for their first orientation day last week and this Wednesday we will welcome them again. It is a very exciting time as they prepare for starting school. On these two days we also hold two of our Year 1 transition to Macquoid days, which have been a great success so far, and many of the students are so excited about moving over to Year 2. All parents of Year 1 students please remember to drop off again at Macquoid Street on Wednesday.

This Thursday four of our students, Izack, Noah, Harry and Ethan will represent their grade level at the Northern Region Chess competition. I wish them all the best of luck and hope they have a great day enjoying the competition. Thanks to the parents and Mr. Gomez for supporting the students in participating in the great event.

Congratulations to our girls basketball team for ranking the highest division 2 team in the NSW Basketball State Championships which they attended on Wednesday 6th November. The team will now progress to the State Championships in Penrith on 26th & 27th November. Well done girls and a big thank you to the coach, Ray Burke and Manager, Soana Bijorac, without their support this would not have been possible. I wish the team all the best at the next State Championships.

There is quite a bit of illness going around the school at the moment including Covid, Whooping Cough, Rhinovirus and Mycoplasma Pneumoniae. All have similar cold/flu like symptoms. Please see the NSW Heath website for more information about the different conditions https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/. Importantly if your child has cold and flu symptoms or a high temperature, please keep them home from school until well. See a doctor if necessary and follow medical advice on the length of time required away from school if diagnosed with one of these conditions.

In this month of November, we continue to remember and pray for our loved ones who have gone before us. Let us also pray for ourselves as we strive to live fulfilled and good lives guided by God. The following prayer comes from Catholic Online a wonderful resource that is a great resource for our spiritual journey through life.

Bless me, heavenly Father, forgive my erring ways. Grant me strength to serve Thee, put purpose in my days. Give me understanding, enough to make me kind. So I may judge all people with my heart, not my mind. Teach me to be patient in everything I do, Content to trust Your wisdom and to follow You. Help me when I falter and hear me when I pray, And receive me in Thy kingdom to dwell with Thee someday.

Amen.
