Teaching and Learning across the curriculum
Learning is a life-long endeavour. We aim to instil a love of learning through specific and targetted student-centred learning experiences that challenge all students. We believe that only through challenge can true growth occur.
The school offers regular instruction in Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Personal Development/Health/Physical Education, Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment and The Creative and Practical Arts. We believe all learning is a developmental process and as a result, there will be tremendous individual differences.
PD/H/PE
Students at St Gregory's from Kinder to Year 6 participate in specialist PE lessons each week with our Physical Education and Health Educator. These lessons are also augmented by specific gymnastics and swimming programs throughout the year.
STEM
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are identified as essential areas of learning for Australia to maintain a high quality of life. At St Gregory's Primary School we recognise that future prosperity depends on students gaining proficiency in these areas in order to foster scientific and technological developments. We have a specialist teacher for STEM who co-facilitates the learning of all children from Years 3-6 in this dynamic area, with an emphasis on project-based learning experience the 4Cs of education and the integration of digital and communication technologies. Our various code clubs throughout the week are chances for students with zero experience and above to gain an insight and capability into this newly emerging field.
Library
Our library is a valuable resource for the entire school. Our Teacher Librarians take each classes every week to assist class teachers with aspects of research and development in other subject areas, sometimes using digital learning tools, to make sense of the world in their contexts. Our libraries are well resourced with a variety of relevant literature and digital learning tools to engage students in a multi-modal world of literature. The library is a welcoming and quiet space open at most break times for all students.
